Ronald Damhof & Martijn Evers are trying to make Data Architects come to grips with the new reality of data, and how to get control back. For this they started a movement they call 'Full Scale Data Architects'. They try help Data Architects in combatting the ever increasing data-tsunami by introducing a different and innovative 'concern driven' mindset.
In this session we will help you understand what being a Full Scale Data Architect means. We will show several concern driven patterns like Damhof's Data Quadrants and Martijn's Data Model Matrix. We will talk about the concerns they embody and how you can use them in your Data Architecture.
Target Audience: Data Architects, Data Modelers, Information Analysts, Enterprise Architects, BI Architects, BI specialists, Data Engineers, Data managers/stewards, Data quality specialists etc.
Prerequisites: Generic BI, Data engineering or data management skills.
Level: Advanced
Extended Abstract
'In this session Ronald Damhof & Martijn Evers will introduce you to the ideas behind the 'Full Scale Data Architect' movement through a series of highly original patterns and concepts. We will show why we have a different notion of 'data' and 'data architecture' and it's importance in a world where data takes more and more the center stage. We will show you how to align a broad set of stakeholders, from business owners, through architects and even data engineers of how to manage, develop and maintain complex data landscapes. For this we build upon true and tested scientific foundations, but put them into a modern context we call a 'concern driven architecture'. We will show you how to shape such an architecture using 'concern matrices' like the Data Quadrant model and the Model Matrix. These matrices are simple to setup and understand, but hide deeply complex patterns and we will show how they can be used to understand and unify a very broad set of technology, business and their concerns. Finally we can rid ourselves and our organizations from technological intimacy and their terminology to facilitate not just data driven business transformations but data diligent business transformations.
