KONFERENZPROGRAMM

Would I survive a Zombie-Apokalypse? The "Final Girl Project"

Inspired by last year’s TDWI “Zombieroom” talk, this passion project uses a playful apocalypse theme to drive serious skill growth. I explore whether my data skills can calculate a personal “survivor score” by building an end‑to‑end data architecture, expanding machine learning knowledge, and experimenting with European open‑source tools with a little help from AI agents. This is work‑in‑progress:  I’ll share gains, pains, detours, and lessons from the journey so far.

Target Audience: beginner to intermediate
Prerequisites: basic understanding of data analytics
Level: Basic

Extended Abstract:
Introducing the "Final Girl Project": This session introduces a passion project, inspired by a memorable TDWI talk at last year's conference that championed learning through storytelling (“Zombieroom”).

Embracing that spirit — and adding a dash of apocalypse-themed fun — I set out to answer a question that proved to be surprisingly motivating, and which challenged my analytical and technical skills. Could my data skills help me determine my survival potential and calculate an individual 'survivor score'?

To explore this key question, I'm building my own end-to-end data architecture to conduct analyses and expand my machine learning knowledge. I'm also using European open source tools and platforms to broaden my technical know-how. Generative and agentic AI will help automate tasks and orchestrate parts of the workflow.

Because the project is still unfolding, the session offers an honest look at the journey so far: the gains, the pains, the unexpected detours, and the evolving methodology behind turning a playful narrative into a structured learning experience. Attendees will get a walkthrough of the current tech stack, algorithmic choices, data sources, and next steps — and perhaps leave with ideas for their own creatively themed skill building adventures.

Principal Analytics Consulting

Since 2011, I have been advising companies under the name 'M8 Performance' on how to collect, process and use data, with a particular focus on data from digital platforms. My consultancy services cover all aspects of data management and analysis. These include designing key performance indicator systems and business intelligence measures, managing requirements, supporting the development of technical infrastructure and performing traditional data analysis and governance.
